Creating Lifelong Readers: Empowering Families, Transforming Futures
Lit’ for Life™ is a proactive, initiative to address the literacy gap in our community by partnering with others to provide safe welcoming intergenerational reading experiences for families.
Guided by a dedicated volunteer Advisory Board, Lit’ for Life provides information and resources to parents and other care providers on how to support school readiness and academic success by reading, talking, and exploring with the children on a regular basis.
Mission
Creating Lifelong Readers: Empowering Families, Transforming Futures
Our mission is to build a love of reading and learning in families. We do this by hosting fun, energetic reading and crafting events for adults and children.
In safe spaces we share books, games, crafts in fun nurturing 2 hour events. Events include “Grammas Read”, “Syracuse Real Men Read”, African American Readin, and Zoo to You with Rosamond Gifford Zoo. Children and adults get to explore themed activities and books. Each child selects a book to take home to start or add to their home libraries.
Research has shown that children who have books in the home are 3 times better prepared for reading in the classroom. Children who are read to have thousands more words in their early vocabulary. Both of these indicators result in greater reading readiness in the classroom.
Lit’ for Life helps build reading readiness and home libraries thru our reading events with partners who are serving the community.
We’d love to partner with you to get reading resources and books into the homes of more families and children. Everyone deserves the opportunity to learn and read. Agree???
